Hungarian Foreign Minister: Our economy will be destroyed without Russian gas

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stressed that his country's economy will be destroyed in the event of stopping gas supplies from Russia against the backdrop of the European Union's efforts to gradually abandon it.

In an interview with the American Fox News Channel, the Hungarian minister said, "The consequences of stopping Russian gas supplies will be catastrophic for our economy, not to mention the technical reform of our refineries for the purpose of refining other types of non-Russian oil and gas, which will require additional investments of 550 million euros."

Szijjarto added that the total volume of investments for such a task may amount to about one billion euros, stressing that "in the conditions of the complete absence of Russian oil, it will be impossible for Hungary to import oil in sufficient quantities from other sources."

The European Union is preparing the sixth package of sanctions against Russia against the backdrop of its military operation to protect Donbass, which includes abandoning oil imports from Russia, declaring its intention to get rid of Russian fuel supplies in the long term.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the approval of the Sixth Package faltered due to the positions of some countries rejecting these sanctions, especially Hungary.
