Head of the Russian Audit Bureau Alexei Kudrin confirmed that Russia possesses resources that enable it to repay international debts, despite the US Treasury's refusal to renew the license for its services.
"The Russian Federation has all the resources to repay the state debt and in this sense all lenders working with the Russian Federation can be confident that Russia is ready and ready to pay," Kudrin was quoted by the Russian TASS news agency as telling reporters.
Kudrin noted that the evolving situation cannot be formally categorized as a declaration of default.
The Russian Finance Ministry had announced earlier that Russia will continue to fulfill its international debt repayment obligations despite the US Treasury's refusal to extend the debt service license, as payment will be made in rubles, noting that Russia's international sovereign debt amounted to 57.134 billion dollars as of April 1, 2002, including 37.26 $1 billion in debt under foreign bond loans.
