Window, center or aisle? When checking in, Lufthansa passengers had a long time to choose their seat. Now they should pay for it when they travel with the Light tariff.

Lufthansa is continuing to cut back the services in its cheapest tariff, “Economy Light”.

From June 21, passengers with these tickets can only change seats on Lufthansa and Swiss European flights for a fee of 25 euros or more.

This was announced by Lufthansa.

However, as before, families and groups would not be separated when booking together.

When checking in with a Lufthansa ticket, passengers are assigned a seat.

Previously, Economy Light customers were also able to change their seat free of charge from 23 hours before departure.

This option should now be paid for.

There are only exceptions on flights to Italy if children between the ages of two and twelve or people with disabilities are accompanied.

Lufthansa is recovering from the Corona low – also because of higher ticket prices

In the other booking classes on European trips, reservations remain subject to a fee, but can still be changed free of charge at check-in.

Only top-class regular customers can currently reserve seats further in advance free of charge on European flights.

The German airline had recently started to recover from the corona low.

After most travel restrictions were lifted, demand increased along with higher ticket prices.

In the first quarter of 2022, Lufthansa was able to double its revenue compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, the airline managed to almost halve its loss.

Holiday and private trips in particular are booked much more frequently, according to Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr at the beginning of May.

Business travelers are also traveling more often by plane again.

In addition, the demand for luxury is increasing, with more private travelers buying business and first-class tickets.

In mid-May, Lufthansa announced that the most expensive ticket offered by Arline was sold out: a first-class ticket from San Francisco to Frankfurt and back.

The price was $24,000.
