EDF urged to sell more cheap electricity

This is to limit the price spike for customers in 2023, according to the Energy Regulatory Commission.


When electricity prices soar on the markets but remain almost stable for individuals, there is someone who pays the difference.

For 2022, the Castex government has shared the bill between the State, via a drastic tax cut, and EDF, which must sell more electricity of nuclear origin.

On Wednesday, the chairman of the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE), Jean-François Carenco, called on the executive to renew the measure concerning EDF in 2023 in order to avoid a new spike in electricity prices for individuals and businesses.

In detail, the CRE advises the government to increase from 100 to 130 terawatt hours the volume of electricity of nuclear origin that EDF will sell in 2023 to its competitors within the framework of the device called Arenh.

All at a price revised upwards, from 42 to 49.50 euros, recommends the CRE at the same time.

These 30 TWh more would be as much electricity as the suppliers would not have to buy...
