Less than a month after winning the election, Anthony Albanese, Australia's new centre-left prime minister, is settling the submarine crisis with France.
He announced, on the night of Friday to Saturday, that his government has reached an agreement with Naval Group for
"a fair and equitable settlement"
of 555 million euros following the abrupt termination of the contract.
The latter involved the delivery of twelve Attack ocean-going submarines, conventionally powered.
The French group, European leader in naval defense, had signed this contract of 35 billion euros, including 8 billion for France, according to several estimates, in 2016. Canberra had also selected the American Lockheed Martin to supply the system of combat future submarines.
