Tehran-Sana

Iran's Economic Security Police have arrested 31 foreign currency and gold speculators in the country.

The Deputy Commander of the Iranian Economic Security Police, Brigadier General Bahrami, said in a statement today: that speculating in futures transactions is an “illegal” act and tantamount to “gambling,” noting that investigations showed that the arrested persons were creating forward transactions with the aim of creating false demand operations in the gold and currency market in order to raise prices.

Brigadier-General Bahrami stressed that the Iranian police will categorically combat futures-dealing activists on charges of disrupting the country's economic order.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Council of Leaders of the three Iranian authorities, in a meeting chaired by the Iranian President, in early June, transformed new powers, especially for the Central Bank to manage the exchange market.
