Launched in 2020, the Pass Jeune TER offered, for 12-25 year olds, unlimited and free access to the entire French TER network in July and August, for 29 euros per month.
A godsend for many young people wishing to travel across France during their summer holidays.
The idea of this Pass was also to boost the use of regional trains after the first confinement.
The device has also been a great success: according to the SNCF, 70,000 Passes had been sold in 2020, and 84,000 in 2021.

Redoing a National Pass proved to be complicated after two years of crisis without any budgetary support from the State.
“explains Regions of France, the institution representing the French regions which worked with the SNCF on this project.
“
We observed that, in 2021, two thirds of young people using the Pass Jeune TER made their journeys within the same region.
Our goal for the summer of 2022 has therefore been to develop more internal and region-specific offers.

#RendezLePassTER
On Twitter, many Internet users reacted to this news.
Several of them relayed the hashtag #RendezLePassTER, recalling that other European countries have chosen to set up advantageous schemes for young people this summer.
This is indeed the case of Belgium with its “
Youth Holidays
” Pass which allows you to travel for 29 euros per month throughout Belgium in second class, during school holidays.
For its part, Germany will continue to offer its "9-Euro-Ticket", which allows you to travel in the country for only 9 euros per month, throughout the summer.

Some Internet users have also underlined the inconsistency of the SNCF through some of their tweets.
“
We are constantly being asked to avoid traveling in combustion-powered vehicles through ecological measures and, on the contrary, we are removing everything that could encourage us to do so.

Launching an online petition
Reacting to this decision, Alexis Olijnyk, a student from Lille, launched the petition "
For the renewal of the Pass Jeune TER in France in 2022
".
It has already collected more than 12,900 signatures.
In an introductory message, the student is indignant: “
This choice is just unacceptable... It encourages young people to take the car and deprives some young people of vacations and trips.
For people who didn't necessarily have the means to travel, I don't find that fair.

There are still several price advantages for taking the train, reserved for young people.
12-25 year olds can indeed have access to “
young
” prices on TER tickets but also yearly subscriptions, which vary according to French regions.
The Youth Advantage Card, priced at 49 euros and valid for one year, allows you to benefit from a 30% reduction on journeys with TGV INOUI, INTERCITÉS and TER, in France and in Europe, for 12-27 year olds.
