The collective bargaining agreement reached between employers and unions in May on municipal social and educational professions has now been officially confirmed.

The General Assembly of the Association of Municipal Employers' Associations (VKA) approved the compromise.

It provides more money and more free time for around 330,000 employees in Germany.

The responsible bodies of the trade unions Ver.di and the civil servants' association dbb also gave their approval.

The tariff result can now be implemented.

On May 18, after more than twelve hours of negotiations with municipal employers, the trade unions agreed on additional days off and monthly allowances for employees in social and educational professions.

Two previous bargaining rounds had been adjourned without a result.

According to VKA Managing Director Wolfgang Spree, the additional days off were particularly controversial in the employer bodies.

"They will lead to a reduced presence in the facilities and, in the worst case, result in additional closing days in the daycare centers," Spree warned on Monday.

In the next step, the contracting parties will meet for the so-called editorial negotiations in order to clarify the detailed questions and to include the new collective bargaining result in the contracts.
