Become a penguin guardian in Antarctica

Going to Antarctica for six months to watch penguins and manage the Post Office on a small island in Antarctica: this is the experience that Vicky Inglis was able to live at the British base in Port Lockroy.

In 2019, when she heard the opening of this job on the radio, she was adamant: "

This is the job I should be doing

".

Recently made redundant from a job in the environment, Vicky Inglis applies for the offer.

His profile was finally retained by the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) association, which takes care of the island.

During her CDD, the young woman had “

an incredible experience

”: “

I watched the penguins, the construction of their nests and the birth of the chicks.

I discovered other wild animals such as humpback whales, killer whales, sea leopards, seals and even sea lions.

In addition to these observations, Vicky Inglis had to take care of the Post Office, receiving mail, and welcoming visitors.

For six months, she received nearly 7,000 euros.

But the association warns: "

It's tiring work, there is little network on the island and little break time

".

UKAHT is looking for a new team to work from November.

For four positions, the association received more than 6,000 applications.

Among the decision-makers is Vicky Inglis, now hired full-time in the organization.

Test a holiday in a club

"

Send your applications to CDDdereve@belambra.fr

", posted the Belambra website this spring.

The objective: to test one of the clubs in the group for free for a week, while being paid.

"

We have launched a vast program of transformations and investments in our clubs

", indicates Alexis Gardy, president of Belambra.

This offer allows us “

to let it be known without just talking about the work

”.

The idea is directly “

inspired by that of the Australian state of Queensland, which offered a dream job a few years ago:

living for six months in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef

”.

In all, ten dream positions were to be filled in five French clubs.

Belambra received more than 6,000 applications.

The group did not wish to call on influencers, to have a “

more authentic feedback from people who take their mission to heart

”.

Among the lucky ones, Leslie, a 32-year-old mother.

This make-up artist for children was offered a week's vacation in early June at the Domaine de Mousquety, located near Avignon.

Belambra also invited her husband and her nine-month-old baby to test the infrastructure and activities.

Despite the advantages, I have made an honest return with the positives and negatives of the club

“, she underlines.

In addition to the holidays offered, Belambra paid Leslie 300 euros for a 35-hour week: “

That allowed me to pay for the road between Paris and Avignon.

Organize and participate in student parties

Some students need a little help with their expenses.

Camille, 23, "

didn't want to depend on her parents

" and went looking for a little job.

She found an "

uncommon and atypical

" job: organizing and participating in parties with young people of her age.

This position is offered by Schlouk, an application that lists 7000 bars in France, Great Britain and Belgium.

This is a fixed-term contract of 10 hours each week, for four months.

The main mission is to make Schlouk known to students during evenings in bars.

"

I had a net salary of 390 euros per month and I got a bonus of 200 euros at the end of my contract

," says Camille.

Mélisande, the co-founder of Schlouk, specifies that “

new hires are to be filled by the start of the school year

” in Paris, Strasbourg, Lille and Nancy.

"

If the experience is conclusive, we then have the possibility of continuing the fixed-term contract, of offering a work-study contract or of hiring the young person on a permanent contract

," she adds.

Taste food or test drive cars

If it is difficult to access these offers because of the many applications, it is possible to find activities that are easier to access.

Users of the MyConsoo site can thus taste dishes, test new products or give their opinions, then receiving financial compensation.

For example, to test a hair product from July 18 to 27, the consumer receives an e-gift voucher for 30 euros, the same for testing food with an e-cheque for 20 euros.

"

This allows you to have a little supplement for the difficult end of the month

", recognizes Murielle, 47, without professional activity.

These surveys help improve brands.

Among the clients, we have CAC 40 companies

,” says Julie from the MyConsoo team.

Some companies do not hesitate to organize a trip to collect the opinion of a user.

A few weeks ago, one of them offered, for example, to test drive a car, paying for the plane and the hotel.

To be selected for the site's offers, each candidate answers a few questions, the most appropriate profile is selected.

The concept, launched four years ago, has already won over more than 10,000 members.
