Oil prices rose more than $3 a barrel on the back of supply shortages, but recorded their second weekly decline amid fears of a recession.
According to Reuters, Brent crude closed up 2.8 percent to $113.12 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude settled up 3.2 percent to $107.62.
Today's survey showed that US consumer confidence hit a record low in June even as inflation expectations improved slightly.
The latest weekly US oil stockpile numbers, which will give an indication of tight supply in the largest consumer, have been postponed to next week due to technical problems.
