The heads of the giant energy companies in France today warned individuals and companies not to reduce energy consumption, stressing the need to reduce it immediately in preparation for a looming energy crisis.
“We need to act collectively to reduce our consumption in order to regain the ability to act,” the chief executives of some companies said in an open letter published by the French weekly newspaper, Journal du Dimanche.
The letter, signed by delegates from Energy, EDF and Total, referred to the sharp decline in Russian gas shipments, in addition to the limited production of electricity due to maintenance.
In their letter, the executives stated that “taking action by this summer will allow us to better prepare for the onset of next winter and in particular to preserve our gas reserves,” stressing that “efforts to reduce consumption must be immediate, collective and intensified.”
