Ecuador's Energy Ministry has warned that oil production may stop within the next 48 hours amid escalating protests in the country.
The ministry said in a statement today that "it is likely that production will stop during the next two days, with the continued cutting of roads and sabotage of oil wells," noting that oil production has reached a critical level, as it has fallen by nearly half.
The ministry also warned against stopping oil production completely if protests and the blockade continue in the country.
It is noteworthy that indigenous protests against the high cost of living in Ecuador nearly two weeks ago have paralyzed transportation in the country and set up roadblocks in 19 provinces.
