This coming Friday, July 1, the Population and Immigration Authority will launch a voluntary exit operation for Filipino citizens residing illegally in Israel.

The operation will run until the end of November.

He will call on families with children to arrange their voluntary departure from Israel, and in return, those who leave voluntarily will receive a grant of $ 5,000, which will be distributed over a year.

More than a decade ago, an enforcement attempt was made to expel families of Filipino citizens, especially Filipino mothers with their children, from Israel, but the operation provoked strong public opposition and was unsuccessful.

The Population and Immigration Authority drew conclusions and launched the new initiative, in cooperation with the Philippine government and the Philippine Embassy in Israel.

Families who are interested in leaving the country can contact a special center that will perform the procedure for them.

In an interview to be published tomorrow in Walla,

the director general of the Population and Immigration Authority, Tomer Moskowitz, says:

"As annoying as it is, I think we have to pay people to leave, it is ultimately the cheapest solution."

Moskowitz also talks about more An initiative that will be launched soon: "Most of the illegal immigrants are those who entered as tourists, Eritreans, and Sudanese.

We are working hard on a voluntary exit operation, to a country of nationals who are staying here - and are promoting an arrangement whose details will be published in the near future. "

According to official data, as of 2020, about 30,000 illegal immigrants were found in Israel. The government agreed to deport them to a third country, which later turned out to be Rwanda, and even then a $ 3,500 grant was promised to those who agreed to leave voluntarily by March of that year.

Eventually the plan did not materialize due to European pressure exerted on the Rwandan presidency and the agreement collapsed.

Against this background, it is possible to understand the refusal of the Population Authority to reveal the name of the third country with which the contacts for voluntary removal are taking place, for fear that the current agreement will also be annulled before it is implemented.
