Tax consultant Leon Keul tells why he loves his job (podcast)

2022-06-29T10:56:40.254Z

He paid 12,000 euros for the tax consultant exam and had to sit three six-hour exams in the Berlin exhibition halls. Here Leon Keul explains why he did it to himself - and reveals his savings tips.

He usually works 60 hours a week and when he does make it to a party in the evening, he is again confronted with the question his job revolves around: How can I save money on taxes?

But Leon Keul doesn't blame anyone.

He enjoys digging through what he calls the "jungle" of tax laws: "I don't see it as work, it's more of a small calling."

Convincing the tax office with an argument is one of the best moments of his job for him.

For employees who only have income from non-self-employed work, however, there is little leeway, he admits: »In many cases it is not worth hiring a tax consultant either.«

If it were up to him, he would increase the employee lump sum to 5000 euros anyway, because then most employees could save themselves the tax return, and the tax authorities would also have less work: "I think that would be a win-win situation". , says Kel.

"But these are political discussions."

He understands that many people are put off by the cumbersome tax forms alone.

In many cases, he now knows by heart which line to put what in, "but I sometimes have to find out where to put something."
