The Central Bank of Syria called on citizens not to deal in foreign currency with unlicensed parties in order to preserve them, as a result of the frequent receipt of cases of counterfeit foreign currencies, especially what is revealed during the payment of the cash allowance for military service.
In a statement, the Central Bank stated that SANA received a copy of the severe penalties stipulated in the decrees prohibiting dealing in other than the Syrian pound as a means of payments, and the provisions that criminalize counterfeiting, forgery or promotion of counterfeit currency and stipulated in the Penal Code.
And according to Legislative Decree No. 3 of 2020 and 54 of 2013, dealing with anything other than the Syrian pound is prohibited as a means of payments or for any kind of commercial circulation or cash payments, whether in foreign currency or precious metals, taking into account the exchange regulations in force, and anyone who violates this shall be punished with temporary hard labor for a period of no less than For seven years and a financial fine equivalent to twice the value of the payments, the amount dealt with or paid, or the services or goods offered.
