The detail by municipality of the data relating to
income tax
in 2021 was recently published by the DGFiP (General Directorate of Public Finances).
These data are interesting in more ways than one.
First of all, they make it possible to draw up a map of the cities which contribute the most to this emblematic tax of French taxation.
Emblematic certainly but often overestimated in its contribution to the general budget of the State.
Thus, income tax now represents just under a quarter of tax revenue, far behind VAT (38.1%).

After years of rising revenue, the 2021 tax on income collected for 2020 marks a decline of 4% to 74 billion.
Unlike other taxes which have been directly hit by the Covid-19 epidemic, this withdrawal is explained by the tax reduction for low-income households adopted in 2020. A shortfall of 5.5 billion d euros for Bercy but a gain in purchasing power of 300 euros on average...
