Inflation in Europe hit a new record last month amid the war in Ukraine and Western sanctions imposed on Moscow amid fears of a sharp rise in food and energy prices.
And Agence France-Presse quoted the European Statistics Office “Eurostat” as saying today: that the inflation rate in the 19 euro countries reached 8.6 percent last June, at an annual pace, after it recorded 7.4 percent last April and 8.1 percent last May, which is the highest figures recorded by “Eurostat.” Since the index was launched in January 1997.
Philip Wechter, head of economics at Ostrom Asset Management, confirmed that Europeans are suffering from rising prices for grain and oils used in manufactured products.
Inflation still affects primarily the energy sector, including electricity, oil, gas and others, as this component of the price index rose by 41.9 percent at an annual pace last June, after recording 39.1 percent in May.
