A social movement of lifeguards and technical agents continues to affect Parisian swimming pools, with a strike notice in progress over all the summer holidays, while a new heat wave is looming around July 14 in the capital.

16 swimming pools out of 42 currently impacted

Thursday, around a quarter of accessible public swimming pools – school holidays making summer conducive to work – were thus affected by closures, said Friday the assistant (PS and related) for sports Pierre Rabadan during a press briefing. .

In total, between closures and social movement, 16 out of 42 swimming pools were indicated as partially or completely closed on Friday on the city's website.

The impact of the strike is "

difficult to assess because it is quite irregular: the fairly restrictive security measures mean that the closures can be effective if a single agent is missing

", explained PS deputy mayor Anne Hidalgo. .

Protest against working time reform

This social movement has actually been going on since the end of winter with slow strikes, sporadically affecting swimming pools at certain times of the day.

The agents are protesting against the reform of working time applied to the town hall of Paris as to other communities by the law of August 6, 2019, which put an end to derogatory situations and imposes the 35 hour week on public agents since January 1.

On the swimming pools and gymnasiums, we are imposed 43 more hours per year without compensation

”, underlined at the end of June to AFP Voussad Challal, lifeguard and CGT delegate who asks the City for “

compensations which can be widely found by playing on sports hours

” for the agents.

The city has

proposed adjustments that some consider insufficient

”, summed up Pierre Rabadan who “

continues the discussions

” with the trade unions.

The former rugby player asks the CGT and FO to imitate the Unsa, which has lifted its strike notice, "

so as not to find itself in the very uncomfortable and quite unbearable situation of having swimming pools closed in a heat wave situation

".

The length of the notice and the security plan complicate the anticipation of closures, explained the deputy, who recognizes “

difficulties in giving information to users

”.

The deputy wants to be reassuring about the opening on Saturday for Paris Plages of six ephemeral swimming pools, including one in the La Villette basin, supervised on a voluntary basis.

"

We will have the necessary number of lifeguards

," he said.
