42 is said to be the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything else. This is what Douglas Adams writes in his novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
In today's riddle, 42 is not an enigmatic answer, but is associated with the word BUS - see picture above.
There are even more strange assignments: The abbreviation US corresponds to the number 40. And the number 21 is assigned to the word BAR.
If there is a logical system behind it, then which number belongs to the word THAT?
The solution is
DAS = 24
.
The number is calculated from the position of each letter in a word in the alphabet.
Example US: U is at position 21 in the alphabet, S at position 19. US is therefore assigned the number 21+19 = 40.
For DAS we get: 4+1+19 = 24.
