The value of sales in the United Commercial and Industrial Company (Khumsiya) during the first half of this year amounted to about 7 billion Syrian pounds.
In a statement to SANA, the general manager of the company, Mustafa Helal, explained that the rehabilitation and operation of many machines and looms that were out of work during the previous years contributed to a significant doubling of the production capacity, which achieved the company from the beginning of the year until the 30th of last June, sales of about 7 billions of pounds, while it was in 2021 and during the same period, about 3 billion pounds.
Hilal indicated that during the first half of this year, the company produced 1,315 meters of raw fabric and 1,093 meters in the laundry section, while the produced quantity of medical bandages (bandages, bandages and medical tissues) reached 10241 pieces, 156 tons of zoe, 989 thousand meters of shortened fabrics and 104 thousand meters of dyed fabrics.
Helal pointed out that the company, with the efforts of its technicians and the expertise of its cadres, was able to rehabilitate and operate the suspended looms, where the number of working looms reached 125 looms, 3 raw examination machines, a roll machine for medical gauze, a roll machine for broad and heavy orders, and a machine called (Al-Matarah) that was recently brought in.
Hilal pointed out that the tissues machine in the medical cotton department, a recycling machine (Savio), a card machine for medical cotton, the entire old white line (Qazanat) and a set of parts for the production departments have been rehabilitated and operated.
Regarding the company’s investment plan for this year, Hilal stated that it includes the rehabilitation and operation of the first station for conditioning the first hall of the textile department, where the contract was ratified by the Ministry of Industry and a direct order was given to the contractor, in addition to the rehabilitation and operation of the company’s central compressors and the rehabilitation, operation and installation of a boiler brought from the company The Syrian company in Aleppo to the Five-Year Company in Damascus, where a contract was made with metal construction companies to implement the project.
Hilal pointed out that there are a number of obstacles, most notably the difficulty of securing spare parts for machines and raw materials due to the unjust economic siege and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, as well as the shortage of manpower, especially maintenance workers and specialized technicians (mechanics and electricity), calling for reactivating the commitment system to employ graduates of institutes. Intermediate level and graduates of engineering colleges to fill the shortage in all work joints and provide the company with technical and productive employment.
