Less, but more expensive: Prices in ultra-Orthodox food chains have risen by 4%

There is no way to get around the rise in prices: a 4% increase has been recorded in the past year in the prices of products in ultra-Orthodox retail chains.

While many of us try to save costs and turn to the sectoral marketing chains, which are considered cheap, the Consumer Council's survey shows that the price basket has also risen in the ultra-Orthodox marketing chains.

An increase of 1.5% since the beginning of 2022

The cost of living and the wave of price increases are affecting the pockets of all of us, but while the price basket is rising in the retail chains, there are consumers who are trying to 'get around' the 'problem' and buy products at cheaper prices in the ultra-Orthodox chains.

However, tests by the Consumer Council show that the ultra-Orthodox chains also have an average increase of about 4% in the price of all products, compared to last year.

There has also been an increase of about 1.5% since the beginning of the year.

The council examined the ultra-Orthodox chains by examining a basket of 102 products (the products were selected from the most common and best-selling Sterncast and Price data) in the 14 ultra-Orthodox chains:

Shaarei Welfare, Osher Ad, Yesh Chesed, Shefa Birkat Hashem, Mehadrin market warehouses, cheap and large , Maayan 2000, Mehadrin Market, Shira Market, Bar Kol Tov, Nativ HaChesed, Shefa Birkat Hashem close to Beit and the Good Market chain.

The council's inspection shows that the cheapest basket is in the Shaarei Welfare and Happiness chains and that the most expensive basket is in the Good Market chain.

The difference between them is 19% (about NIS 220).

Popcorn for microwave with fur salt Badatz Hot Pop 100 grams sold for NIS 17 in the Yesh chain in the neighborhood and the Good Market chain, compared to NIS 10 in the Mehadrin market warehouse chain, which is NIS 7 difference (71%)

The Consumer Council

: A more moderate increase in the price of the basket compared to its price last year, and compared to the price increases since the beginning of the year, from the 6% increase found by the Consumer Council in all the chains.

The survey shows that the basket price in the ultra-Orthodox chains is cheaper compared to the five non-ultra-Orthodox discount chains that were surveyed *.

The ultra-Orthodox chains are cheaper than the market warehouses, which is the second non-ultra-Orthodox discount chain in the price list.
