The trade union Ver.di has rejected an initial offer by Lufthansa for around 20,000 Lufthansa ground staff as “insufficient”.
According to union information, the company had offered fixed amounts and a performance-related payment over a period of 18 months during the negotiations.
The union is demanding 9.5 percent more money for a twelve-month term.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in early August.
"This offer does not come close to compensating for inflation, in view of the current price increases that would mean a significant loss of real wages for employees," said the negotiator and Ver.di Vice-Chairman Christine Behle.
In view of the overload, the high inflation and a wage cut for three years, significant wage increases are justified, said Behle.
"The employees urgently need more money and they need relief, for themselves and for the passengers."
Flight cancellations for Frankfurt and Munich
The union wants to achieve particularly high salary increases of at least 350 euros for the lower wage groups.
In addition, she demands that all hourly wages be well above the statutory minimum wage, which will rise to twelve euros an hour in October.
Due to current handling problems due to a lack of staff, Lufthansa had recently canceled 2,000 more flights.
A spokesman for the company said that connections at the Frankfurt and Munich hubs would be affected until the end of August.
This is the third wave of Lufthansa flight cancellations this summer.
The airline had already canceled a good 3,000 flights for the months of July and August.
