Large retailers are committed to energy sobriety

Carrefour has signed an agreement with RTE to reduce its electricity consumption. The sector, for its part, has published a savings protocol.


Carrefour is therefore responding to the call for sobriety, a decision taken long before the government itself took any notice.

“These are measures that we have been preparing for several months already.

After an initial alert launched by RTE on April 4, we decided to mobilize to meet the requirements of sobriety,”

explains Bertrand Swiderski, director of sustainable development at Carrefour.

First of all, Carrefour is given real-time access to information on the voltage of the French electricity network.

It operates according to a color code: yellow when consumption is higher than usual, orange when reserves are low, red when demand is higher than production.

RTE may also inform Carrefour of an imminent interruption.

In addition to this device, the participation of Carrefour stores should take four main forms.
