'We want them back': video of Ukrainian women make poignant appeal for missing loved ones

Without news of their sons or husbands, they mobilized in a video broadcast during the summit of the First Ladies and Gentlemen of kyiv on July 23.


She's a mother who has lost a son, a young girl who hasn't heard from her boyfriend since February and the start of the war in Ukraine, another who doesn't know where her father is. .

Facing the camera, these Ukrainian women testify to their pain, sometimes in tears, sometimes calmly, but in the same distress: “My son is my pride” declares this mother in a sob.

Another highlights the bravery of the loved one whose duty it was to protect the country.

They have no information either on the whereabouts of their detained relatives or on the conditions of captivity.

Faced with these feelings of helplessness and suffering, these Ukrainian women appealed to the international community asking to speed up the return of the captive heroes of the defense of Mariupol.

A message, written in the video, reminds us that it has been more than 60 days since they have been in captivity.

It was the Association of Families of Defenders of Azovstal that launched this appeal.

The clip was broadcast during the second summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen which took place in kyiv this Saturday, July 23, organized by Olena Zelenska, wife of the Ukrainian president.
