Lufthansa is increasing capacities more slowly than planned

Lufthansa wanted to achieve a load factor of 85 percent of the pre-corona level this summer. But nothing will come of it because of the lack of staff. Nevertheless, the airline reports a lavish profit.

Lufthansa cannot deliver the range of tickets it originally planned this summer.

From June to September, 80 percent of the capacity before the corona crisis is planned for the passenger airlines, Lufthansa said.

So far, 85 percent of the pre-crisis year 2019 had been targeted.

Lufthansa is currently struggling with major problems.

Because the lack of staff at airlines and especially at ground service providers causes sometimes chaotic conditions at German airports.

In order to stabilize the processes to some extent, the core brand Lufthansa alone had to cancel more than 7,000 flights in the summer months - especially at its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.

The ground staff also went on strike last week.

Numerous passengers were stranded at Frankfurt Airport.

While travelers are annoyed by long queues at airports, Lufthansa again made a lavish profit in the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the troubled group recorded an operating profit of 393 million euros.

The group also expects to be in the black for the year as a whole: the company announced that profits should reach more than half a billion euros.

In the second quarter, Lufthansa generated sales of almost 8.5 billion euros, a good two and a half times as much as in the same period of the previous year, which was affected by the pandemic.

The first half of the year was challenging for passengers and employees, said Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr.

"The airline industry worldwide has reached its operational limits." Nevertheless, the management is optimistic about the future.

A few weeks ago, the Lufthansa boss apologized for having saved too much in one place or another.
