After the scandal surrounding the RBB director Patricia Schlesinger, the public broadcasters are feverishly looking for cases in which compliance rules could have been violated, regardless of whether it is about expense reports, consulting contracts, new buildings or company cars.
In a case that the "Bild" newspaper has now uncovered, the relevant Bavarian Radio task force may wish it had been quicker.
As the reporters from the tabloid found out, IT director Birgit Spanner-Ulmer has two company cars at her disposal.
Both not as big as Schlesinger's service Audi, namely an A7 from Audi (upper middle class) and a Mondeo Tournament from Ford (family class) - but equipped with two drivers who, according to "Bild", only the 59-year-old manager available.
A BR spokesman told the newspaper that the generous equipment was based on the fact that there was always a driver available who could drive Spanner-Ulmer back and forth between her home in Eichstätt and the headquarters of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation in Munich.
The technical director must also be on the move in the entire BR broadcasting area.
However, there are "obligatory requirements of the Working Time Act" for drivers.
»The directors can make use of an in-house driver for business-related journeys.
The exception here is Ms. Spanner-Ulmer, who uses two drivers alternately and, according to the service contract, can also use them for private trips, "explained the BR spokesman.
According to "Bild" information, a chauffeur at BR earns up to 4,150 euros a month.
