The other eight ARD grandees have distanced themselves from the RBB leadership. But could such processes also take place in their institutions? Katja Wildermuth from Bayerischer Rundfunk speaks of an isolated case.

The director of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), Katja Wildermuth, considers the grievances at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) to be an isolated case within the public ARD.

In an interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" she said: "As far as I know and from what we now know: Yes, the events in the RBB are singular."

In view of the crisis at the RBB, the ARD directors distanced themselves sharply from the top of the broadcaster in a way that has never been seen before.

The accusation: The RBB management is not sufficiently and transparently working through the affair about felt and nepotism surrounding the dismissed broadcaster Patricia Schlesinger.

Schlesinger himself has so far rejected the allegations.

Wildermuth said in the “SZ” interview: “For many weeks we asked for comprehensive clarification in discussions, but we only found out a lot in bits and pieces or from the press.

That's where trust was lost.«

The decision of the ARD directors to RBB was the result of many discussions in the background until late at night, said Wildermuth.

"We really didn't take the decision lightly, but rapid and complete transparency on the part of the RBB management is overdue."

When asked whether it was a matter for the RBB if the control in the board of directors did not work there and not a symptom of the system, Wildermuth answered with just one word: "Yes."
