A Chinese-made, solar-powered near-space drone (QMX50) succeeded in making its maiden flight in Yulin, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, yesterday.
Xinhua quoted the China Aviation Industry Corporation (AFIC) as saying today that the plane landed safely after a 26-minute flight, noting that all components of the aircraft system developed by the company's First Aircraft Institute were in good condition after the successful first flight.
AVIC stated that the aircraft is the first model of large unmanned aerial vehicles with a dual-structure configuration, and the first fully electric, solar-powered large unmanned aircraft operating system solely developed by the company.
