The Union of Chambers of Commerce demands that the "Promotions Law", the renewed initiative of the Consumer Protection Authority, be shelved immediately.

Uriel Lin, president of the Union of Chambers of Commerce: "This is a illusory proposal that will prevent businesses from wanting to lower prices and go on sales. We absolutely rule out any regulatory initiative at a time when the public is struggling with the cost of living."

The Consumer Protection Authority submitted a memorandum of law requesting, according to the union, to intervene in the economic considerations of business owners who wish to launch promotions for the general public.

The authority is initiating to enshrine in legislation the requirement for business owners to state that the reference price for the sale price will be the lowest price of a regular sale during the 3 months preceding the new sale.

This, it should be noted, in order to avoid "fake" operations.

"The proposal of the Consumer Protection Authority recycles an old proposal that was discussed several times in the past and was repeatedly rejected," the union says, "It is very unfortunate that the authority chooses to go back and recycle regulatory initiatives that have already been rejected in the past. While the Israeli government is struggling to reduce the regulatory burden in order to reduce the cost of living, this proposal comes of the authority and demands to engage the legislator and the business sector with the addition of unnecessary regulation that will lead to the opposite result - awkwardness and difficulty that will mean that businesses will prefer to avoid lowering prices through promotions, if only to avoid a complicated procedure that could complicate them with the provisions of the law. For the

body of a proposal, the union claims, "the meaning of conducting an examination For each individual branch, or an expectation from a single business owner of a small store, is to make accurate six-monthly records of every product for which there was a sale, what was its regular price, how long were the sales and on what date, is unreasonable on any scale and this without mentioning the possibility of sanctions Or for lawsuits that the business owner will have to deal with."

Lin adds: "I also contacted the Minister of the Economy in this matter and made it clear to her, we absolutely rule out the additional regulatory initiative at the hands of the Consumer Protection Authority. Instead of taking care of such an initiative, the regulatory authorities should deal with reducing the burden of regulation. Any regulatory initiative should be avoided during the next six months except If it is a regulation designed to protect the public's safety and health, the current initiative is diametrically opposed to the government's economic policy and, of course, to the needs of the economy as well.
