The agricultural production plan for the next season, prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, included the production of 1.5 million diverse forestry plants, 3 hectares of new areas, 1977 old areas and 3800 hectares within the plan of the Forestry Development Project.
It also included the reclamation of 253 hectares in artificial afforestation sites, 25 km of service roads, 400 km of site restoration, 38 km of new forest roads, and 2,839 km of road restoration.
The plan for land reclamation and fruitful afforestation included 4000 hectares, including 1025 hectares for the fruitful afforestation project, 475 hectares for the Green Belt Project, and 2500 hectares for the Directorate of Reclamation and Development of Fruitful Landscaping Projects.
It was also planned to introduce 1,700 hectares into the national project to switch to modern irrigation, including 150 hectares in Homs, 100 hectares in Tartous, 50 hectares in Lattakia, 300 in Hama and the same in al-Ghab, 500 in Damascus countryside, 150 in Aleppo, 50 in Deir ez-Zor, and 100 hectares in Daraa.
As for the plant protection plan, it included chemical control against insects, diseases, weeds and rodents for 787 thousand hectares, 20 thousand hectares of mechanical control of gadobe, wild eggplant and Nile flower, 300 thousand hectares of control plan with pheromone and food attractive traps, and 5000 hectares of biological control through vital enemies.
As for the agricultural sector’s need for fertilizers for the next season, the needs of wheat, cotton, sugar beet and fruit trees have been determined at about 300 thousand tons of urea fertilizer 46 percent, 200 thousand tons of triple superphosphate 46 percent and 10 thousand tons of potash sulfate 50 percent, while the total need for the summer and winter seasons is about 722 One thousand tons of urea 46 percent, 511 thousand tons of triple superphosphate 46 percent, and 373 thousand tons of potash sulfate 50 percent.
The plan specified the total need for seed at 363,146 tons of wheat seed, 173,928 tons of barley seed, 3498 tons of cotton seed, 71,762 tons of potato seed, 14 tons of sugar beet seed, and 885 kg of tobacco seed.
The plan also specified the agricultural sector's need for diesel at about 384 million liters, 124 million liters for the wheat crop, 27,000 liters for the beet crop, and 4 million liters for the cotton.
