Part of the state-owned Lufthansa shares went to the logistics entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kühne.
His Kühne Holding AG has increased its total stake in the MDax group to around 17.5 percent, as a spokeswoman explained on request.
The sales process of the German Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) was actively supported.
Kühne is by far Lufthansa's largest shareholder.
First, the "Handelsblatt" reported on the recent purchase of shares.
"This underscores the positive view of Kühne Holding on the company," said the spokeswoman.
Most recently, Kühne, as the largest Lufthansa shareholder, reported a stake of 15.01 percent and signaled interest in further share purchases.
The WSF placed its remaining 6.2 percent stake in Lufthansa with international investors on Tuesday evening.
The holding company did not want to comment on information from the newspaper, according to which Kühne may occupy a seat on the supervisory board at the latest at the annual general meeting next year.
Kühne's confidant Karl Gernandt is planned.
In the course of the state participation, which has now ended, Lufthansa had appointed two supervisory boards, which were to take the interests of the WSF into account.
It was about the Hamburg port boss Angela Titzrath and the former boss of Munich Airport, Michael Kerkloh.
According to the company, both are properly appointed and do not have to resign automatically.
