La Française des jeux (FDJ) announced on Monday that it was in exclusive negotiations to buy ZEturf, “
the second operator in the French online horse racing betting market
” behind PMU.
"
This acquisition project is part of the FDJ group's strategy to strengthen its presence on the French online gaming market open to competition, particularly in activities in which it is not currently present, betting horse racing and poker
,” the company privatized in 2019 said in a statement, without giving any information on the potential amount of the transaction.
The PMU, leader in the sector, however retains the monopoly of bets in physical points of sale.
Founded in 2001, ZEturf has around 20% market share in France in online horse racing betting and is present in the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain.
The company also operates under the ZEbet brand, dedicated to online sports betting.
