More climate shelters, more trees and more water collectors: the president of the Île-de-France region Valérie Pécresse presented Wednesday in Saint-Ouen the plan for adapting the community "

to the effects of change climate

".

Accompanied by her vice-president in charge of ecological transition Yann Wehrling, Valérie Pécresse unveiled a battery of measures in front of a map of heat islands in the region where almost all of the city of Paris and several points in the inner suburbs appeared in red.

To deal with it and “

protect Ile-

de-France residents ”, the region proposes in particular to “

create a network of climatic shelters

”.

We will be able to work to put less than 10 minutes from each of you a place where you can take refuge in the event of a heat wave

”, argued Valérie Pécresse, citing media libraries, green spaces or shade houses.

She also mentioned an "

expanded 1000 fountains plan

" (including misters, water mirrors and paddling pools) in Paris and the suburbs, 50% funded by the region.

This summer, the heat waves were particularly trying in the urban areas of the Ile-de-France region, the densest in France.

In addition, the region has set itself a target of 5,000 hectares renatured (returned to their natural state) by 2030, primarily targeting spaces in the city: schoolyards, car parks, squares but also cemeteries.

Two million trees will be planted, in addition to the existing 120 million, especially in urban areas and with an emphasis on species adapted to the new temperatures.

We will finance 80% of agricultural investments which will enable farms to adapt to the effects of climate change and particularly in the arborist sector

”, also announced Valérie Pécresse, recalling that half of the Ile-de-France territory was agricultural.

For individuals, water collector projects will be financed at 50%.

In total, the cost of the regional plan for adaptation to climate change (Pracc), broken down into 60 actions, has been estimated at one billion euros.

The details and the modus operandi will be presented in a few weeks, assured the region.

While the 2011-2020 decade was the hottest on record, this summer has seen a succession of record heat waves and disasters linked to global warming.
