Faced with an energy bill that could triple by 2023, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region wants to replace, by the end of the year, one million traditional bulbs with LED lamps in its high schools, hoping thus saving six million euros.
This measure, “
emergency and common sense
” for the president of the region Laurent Wauquiez, is part of a so-called “
sobriety
” plan at 80 million euros, to reduce the energy consumption of establishments.
“
The best energy is that which we do not spend
”, hammered Laurent Wauquiez, while the energy bill risks going from “
45 million euros in 2021
” to “
140 million in 2023
”.
Other measures must be effective by the end of the year: maximum temperature of 19 degrees in buildings, limitation of cleaning with hot water and testing of energy consumption management software.
In a second step, the region must tackle the renovation of "
27 energy sieves
" and the installation of solar panels on the roofs, courtyards and above the car parks, with an expected gain of 10 million euros. per year.

To initiate this work, public establishments will be provided with 60 million euros.
The remaining 20 will be made available to private high schools.
The objective is to reduce the energy consumption of establishments by 30% within the next year and a half and that 50% of the energy used comes from renewable sources.
In the meantime, “
budget extensions
” will be allocated to certain establishments to meet the additional costs.
