Recall: Wholesaler recalls cadmium

Cadmium, which is classified as carcinogenic, has been found in giant squid from Lithuania. The manufacturer warns against consuming the product.


A Hamburg life wholesaler has recalled squid arms from Lithuania.

During a laboratory test, an increased cadmium content was found, it said on Friday on the foodwarning.de portal.

The heavy metal is toxic to the kidneys, classified as carcinogenic and can cause bone demineralization.

Therefore, customers should not use the affected product.

The product is »Andre's Fish & Friends giant squid arms 120 g« with the best-before dates of December 13, 2023 and March 4, 2024.

The product is manufactured by Baltijos Delikatesai JSC in Palanga, Lithuania.

The warning applies to customers in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
