The high energy prices are throwing more and more companies into difficulties. The Federal Employment Agency is already registering increasing interest in short-time work. It should be an "early indicator" for the coming crisis.

According to the Federal Employment Agency (BA), interest in short-time work has increased again in the current energy price crisis.

More companies asked about the conditions under which they could register short-time work, said the head of the federal agency Andrea Nahles of the editorial network Germany.

"This is an early indicator that there could be more short-time work again."

If companies want to register short-time work for their staff, they must first notify the Federal Agency.

This is often done on suspicion, the actual use is then lower.

The expressions of interest mentioned by Nahles represent a stage before the ads.

Like most economists, Nahles also assumes that there could be a recession in Germany.

"But the good news is: the labor market is robust," says the BA boss.

Because of the shortage of skilled workers, people who become unemployed have good chances of being placed.
