The countdown begins.
The five contenders for the succession of Laurent Mignon at the head of BPCE (Banque Populaire, Caisse d'Epargne) have a few weeks to defend their candidacy with the Supervisory Board of the banking group.
The tempo is very fast: less than ten days passed between the surprise announcement of the departure of the chairman of the executive board, and the deadline for submitting applications, last Sunday at 8 p.m.
Laurent Mignon will take the helm of the investment company Wendel no later than January 2023, but the nineteen members of the BPCE supervisory board, its chairman Thierry Cahn at the head, want to move quickly to decide between the five candidates.
Their objective: to announce the name of the new boss between mid-October and mid-November.
If they chose an accelerated procedure, it was to prevent campaign maneuvers from contributing to reigniting the war between the “reds” (Caisse d'Épargne) and the “bleus” (Banque Populaire)
