“Objective: reconquest!”
This is the title that appears on the cover of the latest issue of Le
Film français
, published this Friday, September 30.
We see Jérôme Seydoux, the president of Pathé, posing surrounded by Pio Marmaï, Guillaume Canet, Vincent Cassel, François Civil, Pierre Niney and Dany Boon.
A cover that has outraged many Internet users, both for its lack of diversity and for its controversial title.
The latter have indeed underlined that “Reconquest!”
was also the name of the far-right political movement founded by Éric Zemmour.
At the same time, actress, director and journalists castigated this one devoid of women.

To which actress Alexandra Lamy replied: “No women, no diversity.

Anaïs Bouton, host on Paris Première, underlined that “Virginie Efira, Marion Cotillard, Rebecca Zlotowski, Sandrine Kiberlain, Leïla Bekhti, Marie Masmonteil, Sylvie Pialat, and Julia Ducournau”, in particular, also deserved to be on this front page.

The cover would have had less strength without them… Thank you, and congratulations @lefilmfrancais@FNEF_cinema.”

“Smells like Pathé,” he tweeted.

A “regrettable” choice
“The cover published today of
French Film
has generated many reactions, which we understand, can we read in the press release.
The choice to publish this photo on the cover, and the choice of terms, proved to be unfortunate and regrettable.
The weekly affirmed that these decisions were "the fact of the writing, and not of the personalities present on the image, and did not reflect in any way the convictions of the team, nor the editorial line of the
French Film
".
“We have involuntarily, by wishing to highlight some of the promising films of 2023 presented during the day of the film editors of the FNEF, conveyed an image not representative of French cinema, artists and Pathé”, continues the official message.
Before concluding: "We regret it and this proves how much vigilance must be required at all times for the fight for parity to win."
