TotalEnergies: the strike takes root, possible tensions on supplies, according to the CGT

The strikers of most of the French refineries of TotalEnergies decided on Friday to extend the movement which was originally due to end on Thursday evening.

Tense situation at the pump: the strike for the revaluation of wages continues Friday in the refineries of TotalEnergies, at the call of the CGT which estimates that this could lead to supply difficulties in certain service stations.

These stations have already been victims of their own success since the oil giant introduced a pump discount of 20 cents in order to contain the French energy bill.

It is added to that of 30 centimes granted by the State.

The strikers of most of the French refineries of TotalEnergies, fighting for a consideration of inflation in wages, decided on Friday to extend the movement which was initially to end Thursday evening, after three days of stoppage work, said the CGT.

Eric Sellini, CGT coordinator for the group, spoke of “

supply problems

”, ensuring that he himself had to “

stock up on the competition

” in Ile-de-France.

The continuation of the strike risks "

further increasing the problem

", he notes.

Consequences for the public, it is not our objective when we go on strike in our establishments, what we would like is for management to judge the economic consequences for the company and to say + we stop the fee and move on to trading+

,” he added.

If the group recognizes difficulties in “

certain stations

”, due to an increase in attendance of “

30% over the month of September

”, it ensures “

that there is no shortage of fuel because TotalEnergies has constituted stocks and is currently making regular imports

".

Despite the social movements, the resupply of our stations continues in the context of the price reduction operation

,” he adds, indicating that he is using additional logistical means.

Movement suspended in Donges and Grandpuits

The movement was renewed at the agro-refinery of La Mède (Bouches-du-Rhône), as in the refineries of Normandy, near Le Havre, whose shutdown began for safety reasons, or Feyzin, in the Lyon conurbation.

On the other hand, it is suspended at the Donges refinery (Loire-Atlantique) "

until the beginning of next week

", just like at the Grandpuits fuel depot, according to Mr. Sellini.

The strikers want to obtain a salary increase for 2022, taking inflation into account.

Management refers to a negotiation meeting scheduled for mid-November.

"

It's to talk about 2023. We, what we would like, is before that, to solve the problem of 2022 and the catch-up of inflation

", explained Mr. Sellini.

The CGT is calling for a salary increase of 10% for the year 2022, the "

unfreezing of hiring

" in France and "

a massive investment plan

" in France, demands already at the origin of movements on 24 June and July 28.

In the event of an actual shutdown of the Normandy refinery, there would only be two refineries in operation on the eight sites in France - six refineries and two bio-refineries -, the others also being affected by strikes or well stopped for work or maintenance operations, according to the CGT.

A strike for a salary increase, renewed Thursday evening, has indeed affected the two French refineries of the Esso-ExxonMobil group in the departments of Seine-Maritime and Bouches-du-Rhône for ten days, according to the group's CGT, which claims "

a minimum of 7.5% general increase

".

In the case of the French hydrocarbon giant, as in that of its American competitor, the unions regularly highlight the colossal profits reaped in recent months, against a backdrop of soaring crude prices.

TotalEnergies thus announced on Wednesday an additional billion dollars of investment in renewable energies, but also several billion in bonuses for its shareholders.
