Cut strands of hair.

This gesture has become the symbol of support for Iranian women, who have been demonstrating for two weeks despite the repression in their country.

“For freedom”, launches Juliette Binoche, before cutting her hair in front of the camera.

Like her, around fifty actresses, singers and activists filmed themselves, scissors in hand, cutting their locks.

Through this video, all bring their solidarity to the Iranian women, two weeks after the death of Mahsa Amini.

“On September 13, she was arrested and abused by the vice police until death,” denounces the clip.

“She was only accused of having worn the veil inappropriately.

She died for letting a few strands of hair show.

His death outraged and moved Iran and the world.”

“Denounce again and again”

Following the death of Mahsa Amini, the uprising in Iran turned into an unprecedented movement, driven by women.

In particular, he questions the law introduced since the Islamic revolution of 1979, which requires them all to wear a veil covering the head and neck and concealing the hair.

Despite the threat and the pressures, the women proclaim loud and clear their right to freedom, chanting the slogan “Zan, zendegi, azadi” (“Woman, life, freedom”).

“We are facing a generation of more educated women who have no intention of accepting this diktat”, analyzes Azadeh Kian, professor of sociology at the University of Paris Cité, in an interview with Madame Figaro.

Published by the “Soutien Femmes Iran” collective, the video is accompanied by an explicit text: “It is impossible not to denounce again and again this terrible repression.

There are already dozens of dead men and women, including children.

The arrests only swell the number of prisoners already illegally detained and too often tortured.

We have therefore decided to respond to the call that has been made to us by cutting, too, some of these locks.

Iranian women need to know they are not alone

Julie Gayet

Supported by Julie Gayet, three lawyers are at the initiative of this video: Richard Sédillot, specialized in the defense of human rights (he had already mobilized for the release of the Iranian lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh), the president of Paris Julie Couturier, and the former president of the Conseil national des barreaux, Christiane Feral Schuhl.

"Iranian women need to know that they are not alone," Julie Gayet told France Inter on Wednesday.

“Silence can be the worst form of violence”.

The solidarity of the seventh art

Tuesday October 4, nearly a thousand personalities of the seventh French art, including Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Camille Cottin and Dany Boon, renowned filmmakers or the boss of the Cannes Film Festival Thierry Frémaux had called for “supporting the revolt of women in Iran”, in a column transmitted to AFP.

“We call on all those who are speaking out against the assassination of Mahsa Amini and the massive, brutal and deadly repression ordered by the Iranian authorities, to express their solidarity loud and clear with regard to the people Iranian."
