Interprofessional strike: transport, school, energy… what to expect on Tuesday?

2022-10-16T16:00:01.785Z

The CGT, FO, FSU and Solidaires are calling for mobilization on October 18. Strike forecasts are expected to be announced Monday in the

The social temperature should go up a notch again at the start of the week.

And if it will be necessary to wait until Monday evening to have real tendencies, internally, the four unions (CGT, FO, FSU and Solidaires) at the origin of the call to strike this Tuesday are certain that the mobilization will be widely followed.

This day of action for "the increase in wages and the defense of the right to strike", will concern "refineries, the food industry, nurseries, public transport, energy and nuclear, (…) education , health, trade…”, listed Catherine Perret, the confederal secretary of the CGT.

The sectors where calls for mobilization have already been launched should be the most affected.

Transport: at the SNCF, we "do not prohibit any scenario"

At the SNCF, the CGT-Cheminots and SUD-Rail have called for mobilization.

Already, some TER scheduled for Monday have been canceled, upstream of the movement.

But the forecasts should be posted around 5 p.m. on Monday, once the number of striking railway workers is known.

“We ask the unions to organize general site meetings on the 18th and we do not forbid ourselves any scenario for the conduct of the action”, indicated in recent days the secretary general of the CGT-Cheminots, Laurent Brun.

At SUD-Rail, a call for a renewable strike has already been launched.

At the RATP, too, disturbances are to be expected because the CGT has called the employees to strike.

Finally, truck drivers could also massively disengage this Tuesday, at the call of the CGT transport federation.

"The employees of the road transport of goods and, more particularly, those who contribute to transporting dangerous materials are in solidarity with the ongoing struggle", indicated the federation, calling on its activists "to inflate the pickets".

At school and in nurseries, a day off?

In many municipalities, municipalities have already alerted parents at the end of last week to warn them that extracurricular activities may not be guaranteed.

Territorial agents will indeed be numerous to declare themselves strikers on Tuesday.

“What is certain is that the strike should be very popular with the Atsem (

), in kindergarten, specifies Baptiste Talbot, the coordinator of the CGT Public Service.

Many of them followed the movement at the start of the school year, but their wage demands are still there.

It's the same for nurseries where the movement should be very followed according to our information.

What about teachers?

The strikers have until Monday evening to declare themselves but already, the unions assure that they will be numerous in the vocational high schools where the movement was already programmed for a long time.

Energy hit hard, especially nuclear power plants

In the nuclear sector, according to the CGT, there are now nine power plants, out of the 18 in the French fleet, which would be affected by slowdowns in electricity production or maintenance, or even blockages in the restarting of reactors at stop.

The transport and distribution of electricity, but also of gas, could also be affected as early as next week, raising fears of targeted cuts in certain companies.

Household waste will wait… but not only

In many large cities – such as Paris, Aix, Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Bordeaux (Gironde), Rouen (Seine-Maritime) or Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) – the strike should be “massively” followed by the garbage men.

But they will not be the only ones, among the territorial officials, to stop work on Tuesday.

“In view of the first elements that go back to us, there could be many strikers among the road workers, the technical but also administrative services or the agents of the libraries and those of the HLM offices, list François Livartowski, of the CGT function public.

The movement is quite widespread in the administration.

Dassault, Stellantis, Safran… also in the private sector

Agrifood workers – 50,000 of whom had already gone on strike at the end of September – could massively join the movement.

It will be the same at Dassault, Stellantis or even Safran where the salary increases granted in recent months are deemed insufficient.
