The public image of Reichman University is that of an academic institution for the children of the rich, perhaps that is why they took the initiative there and announced not only the establishment of a "high-tech school" in collaboration with the biggest name in the field, Google - but also in the same breath that the high-tech school will work to provide equal opportunity and promotion Underrepresented populations.

What is a high-tech school anyway?

Well, the school will include a portfolio of various courses, technological and business, for entry-level professions that are in high demand in the Israeli high-tech market, including: a programming course, software testing, business development, sales, data analyst and more.

And how will it be possible to integrate populations that suffer from underrepresentation in the income branch, in the school's curriculum?

Google is responsible for this, which invested in providing scholarships to the participants of the program, or in the words of the announcement: out of a shared vision to make high-tech training accessible and to provide equal opportunity to the diverse populations in Israel.

However, Breichman clarifies that admission to the various study programs will be based on skills, personal abilities and interpersonal skills, where tuition funding is not a barrier or consideration in the admission process.

CEO of Google Israel, Barak Regev:

"The journey to diversify Israeli high-tech has been led by Google for several years now with support for initiatives such as she-codes, Kama-Tech and Khasov, which took their first steps at Google's campus for startups about a decade ago.

We believe that a variety of voices, opinions and perspectives enriches Israeli high-tech and its developments.

Today we are excited to take this commitment to the next level together with Reichman University.

"Accompaniment for quality placement in the employment market"

The courses will be based on core academic studies, combined with the most up-to-date professional training from the industry.

Unlike other bootcamps (accelerated courses for high-tech professions), the courses are under academic supervision, awarding academic credits for accumulating an academic degree and accompaniment for quality placement and absorption in the employment market.

The high-tech school addresses populations that are under-represented in Israeli high-tech, including women, ultra-Orthodox, Arabs, expatriates of the Ethiopian community and geo-social periphery.

Reaching disadvantaged populations is in collaboration with civil society and third sector organizations.

The studies will take place at the Google Campus in Tel Aviv and at Reichman University in Herzliya.

"We will invest 25 million dollars in diversifying high-tech employment in Israel"

"During the visit of Ruth Porat, the global CFO of Google, at the beginning of the year, we committed to invest an amount of 25 million dollars in diversifying high-tech employment in Israel.

Reichman University's high-tech school in collaboration with Google is the first step in the Journey to Tech program that will allow expanding the circle of high-tech employees and at the same time diversifying it through skilled and high-quality personnel from all strata of the population and sectors in Israel," added Regev.

Founding President and Chairman of the Board, Reichman University, Prof. Uriel Reichman:

"The high-tech school was established out of national responsibility and the belief that only through education can we promote social leadership. Reichman University continues to work to strengthen social resilience and train the future leadership of Israeli society."
