Transport Minister Clément Beaune asked SNCF on Sunday to "
work on ticket prices on a tariff shield
" when these should inevitably increase in 2023 in the face of the explosion in energy prices.
The minister wished "
that the increase in banknotes be in any case lower than inflation
".
“
And above all that those who need the train on a daily basis, the most modest, young people who use the Ouigo for example, are protected
”, he indicated on the set of the Grand Jury
RTL-LCI-Le Figaro
.
In mid-September, SNCF boss Jean-Pierre Farandou assured that the electricity bill for SNCF Voyageurs should increase by 1.6 to 1.7 billion euros in 2023.

Increase in toll prices
“
If we directly passed on (this increase) to the cost of the ticket, we would have to increase the TGV tickets by 10%
”, assured Jean-Pierre Farandou, speaking of a quick “
table corner calculation
”.
He also wanted to reassure by promising that the SNCF would not pass on “
100% of the costs to the customers
”.
Clément Beaune also mentioned the rise in toll prices which should take place in 2023 and said he hoped that it was below inflation.
"
There won't be a 7 to 8% increase, it's not possible
," promised the minister.
"
It will certainly be a larger increase - because we have experienced high inflation - than the 2% of 2022, but it will be in this range
", or between 2 and 8%, he specified.
Discussions are currently underway between the government and the motorway companies, indicated Clément Beaune.
