You can rent a small one-bedroom apartment there for more than 1,000 euros, the m2 sells for more than 10,000 euros, shopping there is more expensive than elsewhere, just like going to the cinema... and yet Paris is located at 77th place in our ranking of cities where life is the cheapest, certainly far behind Niort — 1st city in our ranking —, but ahead of most of the other cities in Île-de-France, as well as ahead of Montpellier (Hérault), Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées), Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) or Laon (Aisne).
