The energy ministers of the European Union failed to agree on a ceiling for gas prices during their meeting today in Brussels.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sjärto said in a post on his page on the Facebook social networking platform, following the ministerial meeting in Brussels today: “During the meeting of the Energy Affairs Council, a ceiling for gas prices was discussed at length, but no agreement was reached in this regard.”

The Hungarian minister, who participated in the meeting, pointed out that the discussions will continue at the bilateral level.

It is noteworthy that the European Commission presented, on the 22nd of last November, a draft for a temporary mechanism for managing the gas market to combat the energy crisis in the European Union, which aims to set a maximum limit for gas prices in order to reduce market fluctuations and prevent large jumps in gas prices, but most European countries considered the proposal. inactive.
