In the summer, Herbert Diess had to give up his top job at Volkswagen, partly because of a power struggle with the employee side. Now he is returning to the supervisory board of the chip company Infineon.

Former Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess is to take over the chairmanship of the supervisory board at Munich chip manufacturer Infineon.

Infineon announced that the supervisory board is proposing Diess for election at the general meeting on February 16.

The 64-year-old should replace Wolfgang Eder, who will no longer compete.

It is a return for Diess: He was a member of Infineon's control committee from 2015 to 2020.

Diess was kicked out of the executive chair in the summer after four years at Volkswagen.

Although he had made the move towards e-mobility with VW, he nevertheless drew criticism for his strategy - and above all quarreled with the powerful works council and supervisory boards from the employee camp, and in the end he also lost the following of important managers.

The 71-year-old management consultant Hans-Ulrich Holdenried is also leaving the Infineon Supervisory Board.

His successor is Klaus Helmrich, who has headed the Digital Industries division at Siemens since 2019.
