Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed Russia's rejection of the European Union's attempts to set a ceiling for gas prices, stressing that it will respond appropriately to measures of this kind.
Russia Today quoted Peskov as saying that these steps constitute a violation of market standards, and that Russia will respond appropriately, as it did with setting a ceiling for the price of Russian oil, as it will not sell it to countries that will determine its purchase price.
The ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Yuri Sentyurin, confirmed earlier today that the European Union's initiative regarding setting a ceiling for the price of Russian gas contradicts the rules of the market and will lead to its deterioration.
And the media reported earlier that the Czech Republic, which currently presides over the Council of the European Union, proposed reducing the possible ceiling for the price of Russian gas from 275 euros per megawatt hour to 188 euros per megawatt hour, and it is expected that the energy ministers of the countries of the Union will discuss the issue of setting a ceiling for the price of this gas while Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that Moscow will not export anything abroad if it contradicts its national interests.
