This was an element put forward by Veolia when it took over the La Chapelle Darblay paper mill, in Grand-Couronne (Seine-Maritime).
In October 2021, the French giant joined forces with Fiber Excellence, a subsidiary of a Canadian group, to transform a newsprint factory into a producer of cardboard paper, a much more dynamic sector.
Veolia pointed to the fact that
“the energy required for the installation will be produced by a biomass cogeneration boiler powered by organic waste from the Normandy, Brittany and Hauts-de-France regions”
.
The overall investment associated with this takeover was around 120 million euros.
