European stocks closed lower in the last trading days in a year marked by geopolitical tensions and fears of a recession as central banks raised interest rates.
Reuters reported that the STOXX 600 index fell by 1.3 percent amid poor trading today, while the general European stock index lost 12.9 percent this year, recording the worst performance since 2018, while the technology stock index fell 1.8 percent, giving up some of the big gains achieved in the last session.
Britain's FTSE 100 closed down 0.8% as trading hours were halved, while the German stock index posted an annual loss of 12.3%, its worst annual loss since 2018.
