The rise in inflation in Germany slowed down at a high level in December 2022.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, consumer prices rose by 8.6 percent compared to the same month last year.
Inflation was 10.0 percent in November, after climbing to a 10.4 percent high in October, the highest level since 1951.
"We've probably survived the worst of inflation," said the chief economist at Berenberg Bank, Holger Schmieding.
"But we can't really take a deep breath yet." In North Rhine-Westphalia, the so-called core inflation - in which energy and food prices are deducted - even accelerated, from 4.6 to 4.9 percent.
This shows that more companies outside the energy sector are passing on their high electricity, heating and fuel costs to consumers.
